Our First Week!

We have had a great first week!  We're all tired, but adjusting to new routines, learning each other's names, and making new friends.  What a terrific group of kids!  I couldn't be happier with how our week has gone!

A few reminders for the coming week:

Students will be taking the AimsWeb Reading and Math tests this week.  During our reading block, we'll be reading lots of books on friendship!  We will also be reviewing the Daily 5 structure.  We'll focus on building a reading community, how to find Good Fit books, and building stamina during Read to Self.

Reading Logs

Your child will bring home a red reading folder on Tuesday.  2nd Graders are expected to read for 20 minutes each night at home for a minimum of 21 days each month.  Please help your child record their reading on their reading log inside their red folder.  At the end of each month, students should return their completed reading log to school.  Our class will vote on a special reward each month for those students who complete their reading logs.

PBIS

We have spent time this week reviewing the "cool tools" that reinforce our school's behavior expectations.  We completed the rotation of stations today and celebrated with freeze pops!  

Math

Math fact fluency is important in 2nd grade.  We took our first round of timed tests this week for both addition and subtraction.  Your child should have flash cards at home to use for practice.  Please encourage your son/daughter to practice their facts.  We will be taking regular timed tests throughout the year.
